Biography

Mariana studied at the Conservatory of Music of the Faculty of Arts of the National University of Colombia, where she was an outstanding student of the Proffesor Pablo Arévalo (who studied with Alfred Cortot) and Mireya Arboleda (who studied with Vlado Perlemüter), both in Paris. She received her Bachelors degree in Piano and later in 1979, her Master's Degree in Piano (Summa Cum Laude).

She joined the Colombian Symphonic Orchestra in 1975 as a percussionist specialized in keyboards and timpani. In 1997 she won by Competition the position of Titular Pianist of the Orchestra, where she developed her skills and expertise as an orchestral pianist until 2003, the year in which the Orchestra was closed.  

​

In 1981, she won the Icetex Scholarship for National Artists, and with the Study Commission granted by the Colombian Institute of Culture, she traveled to the city of Philadelphia, U.S.A to carry out her Postgraduate studies with the famous pianist Susan Starr, silver medal from the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1962, to which she returned as a jury in 1994.

Simultaneously, she worked as a part-time teacher at the Conservatory of Music of the Faculty of Arts of the National University of Colombia, where to date she works as a full-time Professor, completing 42 years in the teaching career. 

​

She participated in the VII JS Bach International Piano Competition and played at the Kleiner Saal of the Neues Gewandhaus in Leipzig, Germany. She has performed multiple recitals in the most important rooms of Bogota such as the Luis Angel Arango Library Concert Hall, Foiyé and Colón Theater, Colonial Art Museum, Leon De Greiff Auditorium of the National University, the National Museum Hall, as well as the Rooms of the Bank of the Republic in Medellín, Cali, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, Cartagena, Pereira, Armenia, Manizales, Cúcuta, Pasto, Girardot, Ibagué, Neiva and the Sucre Theater in the city of Quito, Ecuador.

She performed as a Soloist on multiple occasions with the Colombia Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bogota, and the Ecuador Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed under the direction of the Masters: Daniel Lipton, Lukas Foss, Luis Biava, Simon Blech, Dimitr Manolov, Agustin Cullel, Sergio Acevedo, Federico Garcia Vigil, Jaime León, Simon Blech, Ernesto Díaz, Eduardo Carrizosa, Manuel Cubides, Irwin Hoffmann, Zviegnev Zajac, Gerasim Voronkov and Raúl Mesa.

In 2007 she received the title of Master in Piano Pedagogy with an unanimous qualification "Summa Cum Laude" at the Conservatory of Music of the National University, where her Masters were the renowned pianists Harold Martina, Abraham Abreu and Miguel Angel Scheba. Her Degree Project included the interpretation and elaboration of a written work (published by the National University) about the teaching and interpretation of the five Concertos for Piano and Orchestra and the Triple Concerto by Ludwig van Beethoven, concerts that she performed with the Manizales Symphony Orchestra, the National University Conservatory Symphony Orchestra in the León De Greiff Auditorium and the Orchestra of the Los Andes University Music Department in the Mario Laserna Auditorium.

Teacher of various Chamber Music groups: Piano groups of four, six and eight hands, two Piano Duos, Trios and String Quartets with piano at the National University Conservatory. Her Chamber groups have participated in various competitions, resulting winners in Competitions of the Luis Angel Arango Library, the Fabio Lozano Room of the J. Tadeo Lozano University and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bogota. Quintango and the Altoisonante Quartet were born in his Chamber Music class.

Since 1979 she has been a piano teacher at the Music Conservatory of the National University of Colombia. In 2008 she was promoted to Tenured Professor with a written assignment that included the recording of five CDs. From 2010 to 2020 she served as Coordinator of the Piano and Accompaniment Area. To date, she has accompanied more than 67 student graduations degrees in the Conservatory of the National University in the areas of Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass, Flute, Trumpet, Horn, Percussion and Singing.  

​

To this day she has accrued more than 43 years of experience where she dedicates her  knowledge towards training of new Colombian pianists. For her teaching excellence she received the Medal of University Merit in 2012, which was awarded on behalf of all the careers that make up the Faculty of Arts, (Architecture, Fine Arts , Conservatory, Design and Film and TV) of the National University of Bogota. â€‹

In October 2012, she participated as a pianist in the work “Les Noces” by Igor Stravinsky that the Conservatory performed with professors and students in the version of four pianos, percussion ensemble, singing soloists and choir, directed by Maestro G. Voronkov, work that was premiered nationwide at the Leon De Greiff Auditorium of the National University and later at the Founders Theater in Manizales.

In August and September 2014 at the invitation of the International Piano and Chamber Music Festival in the city of Villingen, Germany, she traveled with 3 of her piano students participating in a Master Class and Piano and Chamber Music Recitals. Later she moved to the Conservatories of Zurich, Berlin, Paris and Rome.

​

In March 2022, she was recognized as an honorary member of the OIICE (International Organization for Educational Inclusion and Quality), likewise awarded the Honorary title Doctor Honoris Causa for her Educational Excellence and recognized with the Honorary Golden Order of Teaching and in Cusco, Peru.

​

Mariana Posada is a proud mother, pianist and orchestral soloist and current piano teacher with a focus on the best professional training of new Colombian musicians and pianists. With almost 50 years of combined musical, orchestral and teaching experience, she seeks to promote in her students the desire  to achieve Master's degrees in different parts of the world which would allow their careers to take off.
